I discovered my passion for computer science when I learned that almost every single thing I did in my day was at some way, run by a computer-like system. I did my best in high school but needed funding to go to the university I felt would push me the most. Then I received the Amazon package at my doorstep and later interned at Amazon headquarters! Interning as a freshman is a huge head start and builds a career-oriented mindset that is life changing. Apply!

I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow my career with Amazon, especially so early in my journey, right after my first year of college. I became interested in computer science during quarantine, and being a role model in the field for younger girls who look like me has been my constant motivation. I thank Amazon for investing in my future and helping me become more capable of empowering others.

The program is an exceptional opportunity for students passionate about software and hardware development. Despite the prospect of interning at a renowned Big Tech company like Amazon after just my first year of college, I was warmly embraced by the community and the larger Amazon family. There was a distinct sense of belonging that resonated deeply. From that moment on, I knew precisely how I would navigate my professional journey — with the invaluable guidance and unwavering support of Amazon Future Engineer, transforming my dreams of a career in computer science into tangible reality.

What is the Amazon Future Engineer internship like?

Winners of the Amazon Future Engineer scholarship also receive an offer to complete a summer industry internship after completing their freshman year of college. Our interns work embedded on a software or hardware engineering team and work with their manager, tech mentors, and teams to build projects that have a real impact on Amazon customers. Interns get to work on some of Amazon’s groundbreaking technologies and core platforms, like Amazon Web Services, seller logistics, and the Amazon retail platform. At the end of the summer, most interns ship production-level code to Amazon!

Besides their project work, Amazon Future Engineer interns get exposure to the Amazon business and build their professional networks through fireside chats with senior leaders, deep dives from technology teams, and a dedicated career mentor. Interns build bonds with their fellow cohort virtually and in-person - so if you join us, you’ll have lots of interns from similar backgrounds to go through this experience with you!
